American Association for the Advancement of Science, Washington, DC.
Five of the seven papers presented at conferences to acquaint school administrators with federally supported elementary school programs (COPES-Conceptually Oriented Program with Elementary Science; ESS-Elementary Science Study; MINNEMAST-Minnesota Mathematics and Science Teaching Project; SCIS-Science Curriculum Improvement Study; and Science--A Process Approach) are reproduced in this report. The papers concern "Elementary School Science for the 1970s in Perspective" (Hurd), "Elementary Science in the Seventies" (Jacobson), "The Authority of Science" (Marshall), "How to Avoid Pitfalls in Introducing New Science Programs" (Dean) and "Introducing New Science Programs in Elementary Schools" (Uffelman). Brief accounts of the nature and emphasis of each of the programs, and an account of the service offered by the Elementary Science Information Unit of the Far West Laboratory for Educational Research and Development are included.
