The primary purpose of this study was to collect data to provide information relating to the present status of high school programs in which experimental aircraft construction had taken place. A card and two questionnaires were utilized to obtain the data necessary to answer the questions posed in the study. The study covered the areas of personnel, students, organization and administration, curriculum, technical details of the aircraft constructed, and recommendations by teachers for similar programs. Conclusions indicate that the number of aircraft construction programs has been increasing during the past 10-year period and that teachers of these programs should have a strong interest in aviation. Recommendations are: (1) Teachers in high school experimental aircraft construction classes should join the Experimental Aircraft Association, (2) Classes should be carefully structured to make the program relevant to student needs, (3) Teamwork and problem solving in the class should be stressed, (4) Colleges should provide classes and workshops for qualified teachers, (5) The classes should be studied at 5- or 10-year intervals to ascertain changes in type and number of classes, and (6) The EAA membership should be surveyed to determine the number of qualified teachers.
