Reading: Process and Pedagogy. Nineteenth Yearbook of the National Reading Conference.
Schick, George B., Ed.; May, Merrill M., Ed.
The first of two volumes of proceedings for the 19th annual National Reading Conference contains 41 addresses generally concerned with the reading process. In most cases these are descriptions of research studies examining facets of the reading process. A few others are position papers describing models of reading. Among the topics considered are such skill areas as comprehension, word association, and critical reading, and the effects of individual learning styles, physical abilities, and personality factors on reading. In the area of testing, the effects of grammatical deletions and of type setting variations are among the topics considered, as are validity and reliability factors. The 1969 Review of Research on College-Adult Reading by Bliesmer contains 180 references and is included in the volume. Bibliographies follow individual papers. (MS)
