Leadership for Continuing Development. Reports of the Working Committees of the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, 1971.
Dodge, James W., Ed.
This report focuses on aspects of leadership in language instruction in three major areas. Professional responsibilities are examined from the point of: (1) stability and change; (2) a profile of the profession, 1971; (3) the nature of a profession; (4) language instruction viewed as a system; (5) culture and language instruction; and (6) professional development. The second section on inservice involvement in the process of change concentrates on various aspects of community involvement and curriculum evaluation. The last section reviews innovative trends in foreign language teaching and discusses the need for change, the open classroom, and specific innovative programs. An address, "Literature for Advanced Foreign-Language Students" by Harry L. Levy is included. A bibliography and a topical index covering the "Northeast Conference Reports", 1954-1971, conclude the work. (RL)
