A tentative hypothesis growing out of the study of the transition from school to work has been that it is the type of articulation between the institution of school and that of the work-place which determines a smooth or rocky transition. Thus, this review of literature concerns itself with the characteristics of the learning environment with the emphasis on the social structure of the school as it affects the learning and behavior of the student both in the present and future. The study was expected to clarify partially some questions relating to talent development, occupational allocation, adaptability of workers, training of workers, worker satisfactions, and performance. The conclusion to be drawn from the study is that the particular structural features of an educational institution such as the values and goals, the system of authority and control, the reward system, the actual organizational subdivision within the system, as well as its size, the recruitment and characteristics of students, teachers, and administrators all combine to produce a particular educational experience.
