Occupational Definitions for School Library Media Personnel. Phase I.
American Association of School Librarians, Chicago, IL.
The work of the Task Analysis Committee, after reaction from the field and five written drafts, resulted in the following four occupational definitions that are listed in this publication: (1) School Library Media Specialist, (2) Head of the School Library Media Center, (3) District School Library Media Director and (4) School Library Media Technician. The definitions were accepted by the Advisory Committee of the School Library Manpower Project in May 1970. The first three occupational definitions will be used as examples from which the Phase II experimental programs of the Project will develop new curriculum approaches and innovations for the education of professional school library media personnel. While the scope of the School Library Manpower Project is primarily concerned with the education of the three professional positions, the occupational definition for the School Library Media Technician is included in this publication to indicate the relation of such para-professional or subprofessional personnel to professional positions.
