This study tested two hypotheses: (1) that the frequency of oral and written communications between a principal and his teachers was related to teacher morale, and (2) that the communication frequency was related to school organizational climate. The sample consisted of 37 Ohio elementary school principals and 310 teachers. Principals kept 20-day records on types of formal communications as the variable of frequency of principal-teacher communications. Teachers completed a scale measuring faculty perception of the school organizational climate. No significant correlation was discovered between total principal-teacher communications and teacher morale.
