A Community-University Model for Urban Preschool Education.
Winkelstein, Ellen
An innovative model for community control of a preschool program joined community resources with university skills. Parents and students formed teaching teams for 39 children aged three to five. The community made ultimate program decisions; the community and the university together administered program decisions and planned curriculum; and the university provided a training program for students and parents. Data used to evaluate the model, compiled from parent interviews and students' written reports, indicate that the model's objective, to provide a means whereby an urban community can operate a preschool program, was achieved.
