The Library Technician at Work: Theory and Practice; Proceedings of a Workshop (Thunder Bay, Ontario, May 8-9, 1970).
Campbell, Allan, Ed.; Dawson, Irene, Ed.
On May 8 and 9, 1970, 170 people from six provinces and four states gathered in Thunder Bay, Ontario, at Lakehead University, for a two-day workshop on the subject of library technicians. The objectives of this workshop were: (1) to consider the role of library assistants or technicians and the type of post-secondary school training which they would require; (2) to consider existing training programs with a view to determining the courses they offer, the markets they serve and their success or failure for employers and employees and (3) to make recommendations on the standards for such courses and the best means of enabling schools which are offering such courses to respond to the needs of the regions they serve. In addition to the workshop proceedings, this report contains a paper by Peter Mutchler and Marian Childs entitled "The Library Technician in the Reference Department: Employment and Value of Training," and numerous job descriptions for library technicians.
