Research in Information Processing and Computer Science. Final Technical Report.
Carnegie-Mellon Univ., Pittsburgh, PA. Social Studies Curriculum Center.
This is the final scientific research report for the research in programing at Carnegie-Mellon University during 1968-1970. Three team programing efforts during the past two years have been the development of (1) BLISS--a system building language on the PDP-10 computer, (2) LC2--a conversational system on the IBM/360, and L*--a system building language on the PDP-10 computer. A number of additional individual programing language and system efforts were accomplished by graduate students as their doctoral dissertation work. Progress in programing is measured by results in the following problem areas: the definition of a new language and the creation of a "running" system for it on one or more computers; the definition of new methodologies for building "running" programing systems for a (preferably many) language(s); and the study and formalization of one or more aspects of programing languages which are common to many specific languages.
