A Proposed Graduate Curriculum for the Community College Chief Administrator.
Guenther, Ronald N.
This study proposed a graduate curriculum for the preparation of community college chief administrators. The proposal was based on research findings obtained from four major sources: selected educational literature; descriptions of existing programs in selected colleges and universities; queries of board presidents of selected community colleges on graduate preparation and the experience that governing boards deem desirable for potential chief administrators; suggestions and opinions of selected practicing community college presidents regarding desirable preparation for such administrators. To gather their opinions, a questionnaire was developed and sent to the presidents and board presidents of 150 community colleges. A Pearson Product Moment Correlation was conducted between the mean scores of matching items of the two groups of presidents, and selected items on the questionnaire were clustered. From these data, 18 factors were formulated for inclusion in a graduate curriculum for the preparation of community college chief administrators. The general conclusion of the study was that chief administrator preparation programs should be emphasized for both the Ed.D and the Ph.D. degrees. (Author/RC)
