Junior High School/Middle School Evaluative Criteria.
Manlove, Donald C.; Mowrey, Lyle
The Junior High School/Middle School Evaluative Criteria is the product of an effort by the National Study of School Evaluation to develop evaluative materials for these schools. The Manual section describes the organization of criteria and provides directions for their use. The sections on "School and Community" and on "Philosophy and Objectives" form the foundation for the entire evaluation process. Sections IV-VI are closely related since all include aspects of the formal educational program. Section IV, on educational commitments, provides an opportunity for the school to consider its central priorities; Section V focuses on the organization of the curriculum; and Section VI is intended for use in all areas of instruction that the school identifies. Section VII covers aspects of the program of student activities, and Section VIII includes learning media services. Student services such as guidance, health, special education, food and transportation are considered in Section IX. Section X concerns administration, instructional staff, and auxiliary staff. The final section deals with the school plant and the facilities. The Evaluative sections IV-XI are all organized on a five point format: fundamental principles and premises, the nature of the program, its evaluation, school plans for improvement, and, finally, a current status scale.
