It was hypothesized that there are significant differences in intellectual patterns between black and white populations which can be demonstrated on the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). A one-way analysis of variance was performed on the subjects' scores on the WAIS subtests and the Verbal, Peformance and Full Scale IQ using the ethnic differential as the grouping factor. When the groups were paired by Full Scale IQ, a significant difference was found between space conceptualization (performance on object assembly) and comprehension (performance on verbal tests) with blacks performing at a higher level on the latter. Generally, the research indicated that in whites the ability to abstract, to form new associations, and memory are related and in blacks the abiity to size up a situation, to analyze, and to differentiate essentials from non-essentials are related.
