Continuing Education for R and D Careers. An Exploratory Study of Employer-Sponsored and Self-Teaching Models of Continuing Education in Large Industrial and Federal Government Owned R & D Laboratories.
Renck, Richard
The purpose of this study was to collect and interpret facts relating to the need for, and use of, continuing education by research and development (R and D) scientists and engineers in large industrial and government R and D laboratories. The top management, personnel executives, training executives, scientists, and engineers employed at various R and D laboratories were interviewed. Questionnaires were administered to 394 employees. The information gained from these sources was tabulated and analyzed for patterns and trends. These patterns and trends were used to form the basis of a series of suggestions for action by management, professional societies, and universities in the field of continuing education for scientists and engineers. A bibliography, a list of participating institutions, and several data tables are appended. (Author/JY)
