Four prefabricated mobile units housing specialized industrial arts equipment were rotated among four junior high schools in this project, which was designed to improve eighth grade student performance and teaching techniques. The demonstration group showed significantly greater gains in tool usage, problem solving abilities, consumer knowledge, and general social behavior as indicated by pre-and posttests and instructor ratings. Teachers, who received workshop sessions and guided practice in planning instructional sequences, were judged on demonstrated ability in pre- and post-workshop assignments and were generally improved. The transportable laboratories were an unqualified success. Recommendations include: (1) greater emphasis upon consumer education and vocational guidance activities, (2) extension of industrial arts to Grade 7, (3) improvement in the status of industrial arts through improved instruction, and (4) continued use of the transportable units as a necessary functional part of the total program. Statistical tables, a copy of teacher made pre- and posttests, educational specifications for the facilities, and a course of study for each area are appended.
