The Oregon Small Schools Program. An Evaluative Report.
Allen, William W.
A 2-year evaluation of the small secondary schools program in Oregon views the project from many perspectives. The report briefly discusses the geographical environment of the state, citing the principal occupations of each area. Other aspects discussed include geographical-economic implications for small schools; family structures and ethnic backgrounds; population, employment, and personal income; community attitudes toward small schools; objectives of the small schools project; evaluations of relevant conferences, seminars, and workshops; and interschool visitations. Descriptive summaries of the various pilot projects conducted in 1967 and 1968 are also included. A base-line data summation is presented which makes it apparent that the Oregon Small Schools Project has achieved its initial objectives remarkably well while establishing an exemplary pattern of improvement in rural and small schools.
