The planning procedure suggested in this handbook consists of an evaluation of the existing educational program and a comprehensive survey of the school plant. Resulting recommendations will involve renovation of, or additions to, present buildings, or new building on existing sites. A summary of recommendations on school construction economies is given. The building budget is discussed, including loans and bonds, and the selection of an educational consultant and architect. Appendices offer information on school sites, lighting, and finishes, and in some detail on space guidelines. A bibliography of planning manuals from other state departments of education is appended.
