In a document translated from the Russian, an analysis is made of various forms and methods of programed learning. The primary developments in the introduction of programed learning methods are: creation of programed teaching aids; use of existing textbooks for programed lectures with feedback; and use of both teaching machines and machineless methods of checking knowledge. These directions are described in some detail and compared. It is noted that the potential of programed learning for saving the student's time is often not realized, due to the fact that the students are not accustomed to the increased amounts of independent work which programed learning requires. Some examples of programed methods used in the author's school are presented. Subjects taught are primarily technical. (Author)
