A Sensory-Motor Approach to Music Learning. Book I - Primary Concepts.
Carabo-Cone, Madeleine
The psychological background of the Carabo-Cone Method of teaching music, which is based on the theory that structured subject matter can be assimilated if translated into a concrete explorable environment is discussed. Comparison is made with other methods (Montessori, Dalcroze, Orff, Suzuki, and Kodaly), and the arrangement of the room as a learning environment and the musical staff as a mental gymnasium are considered. Attention is given to the child's own body as a learning aid, his motivation, the mental and visual focus of attention, methods of building skills, some general suggestions for teachers, and descriptions of the rest of the Carabo-Cone Method series of pamphlets.
