Attitudes of Minneapolis Agency Personnel Toward Urban Indians.
Harkins, Arthur M.; Woods, Richard G.
Problem areas of American Indians in the urban setting, especially employment, education, health, justice, housing, public welfare, parks, libraries, churches, and the Indian Center are summarized. The relationship of these problem areas to Chippewa history and culture in Minnesota is discussed. Indian applicants at the American Indian Employment Center and inner-city Indian residents in Minneapolis are described. Inner-city Indian residents are compared with the white population, and agency services and assistance needed by both groups are presented. A review of the attitudes of agency personnel towards Indians includes meanings and implications. Non-high school graduates and high school graduates applying for employment are compared by sex in the concluding appendix. (SW)
