The Economic Impact of Spokane Community College upon the Spokane Metropolitan Area.
Merchant, Ronald
In an attempt to show that Spokane Community College was a significant factor in the current and future economic fortunes of the city of Spokane, four hypotheses were tested and confirmed: (1) Spokane Community College (SCC) had a higher growth rate than the city itself between 1963 and 1968 as shown by population, employment, capital investment, and direct expenditures (retail sales); (2) SCC will continue to be an important economic factor in Spokane; (3) SCC students will spend at least $5,000,000 for goods and services during 1968 in Spokane; and (4) SCC is responsible for at least 2,000 students being in Spokane. This thesis was designed to provide Spokane business and professional people with the information that would generate increased interest in and support for SCC as a significant "business" force in the community.
