A Study to Determine the Interest in the Establishment of Catholic Two-Year Colleges for Laymen in the Diocese of Albany, New York.
O'Brien, William Francis
To determine the degree of interest in the establishment of 2-year Catholic lay colleges in the area of Albany, New York, (1) the literature pertaining to 2-year colleges was reviewed, (2) conferences were held with local, state, and national 2-year college officials, (3) interviews were conducted with the administrators of the six existing Catholic lay colleges in New York, and (4) a questionnaire was sent to all eleventh and twelfth grade students in the Albany-area Catholic secondary schools, to their parents, and to the placement officer at each school, to determine the degree of interest in attending a 2-year Catholic school. It was concluded that one co-educational Catholic 2-year school, offering both transfer and occupational curricula, should be established within commuting distance of as many students as possible, and it was recommended that the college be able to accommodate a minimum of 400 new students each year, but limit expansion to 2-year offerings.
