A student teacher, whose success may depend in part upon his acceptance of professional obligations as well as opportunities, may gain insight into his professional role through participation in professional organizations (which expose him to teacher models other than his own supervising teacher and permit professional identification and enhanced self-esteem), subscription to professional publications, and attendance at local teachers' meetings to understand the nature of the school and personnel with whom he works.
