In this document on Swedish folk high schools, the history, philosophy, types of programs, backgrounds of past and present students, adjustment to a changing society, and the implications for the future, are presented. Reference is also made to the whole educational system and the relationship of folk schools in terms of their service, recognition, suitability to students' needs, and adaptation to Sweden's planned economy. In addition, an informal discussion of some of the problems, the examination of the folk school in transition, the shortcomings of the schools, and the role played by the seminar program for American students are given. Included also are statistical data on the number of pupils at subsidized schools and the number and size of folk high schools. (nl)
