Classroom management is defined as procedures for arranging the classroom environment so that children learn what the teacher wants to teach them in the healthiest and most effective way possible. The Southwestern Cooperative Educational Laboratory presents a discussion of these procedures as they relate to social controls and components of learning theories (motivation, cue, response, and reinforcement within the classroom). Three studies of applications of reinforcement are reported which indicate the relation of this component to classroom management. The document also contains an example of classroom management, outlines of common learning theories, and a chart contrasting the various positions of the theorists.
