Volunteer Training and Development; A Manual for Community Groups.
Stenzel, Anne K.; Feeney, Helen M.
This manual is designed to help meet the present and future educational needs of community groups, membership organizations, and voluntary associations in preparing volunteers in health, welfare, education, or cultural or civic affairs. Elements of program planning, selection and recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation are covered, with emphasis on the importance of the continuous learning aspect of volunteer service. Principles of informal adult education are used as the basis for planning and evaluating volunteer training programs, whether long-term or short-term. All the factors affecting the individual volunteer are examined: attitude, behavior change, job satisfaction, opportunity for growth, and participation in the process of teaching and learning. Special attention is given to the educational needs of disadvantaged persons and retirees for volunteer service. Numerous charts, outlines, checklists, samples, and examples are recommended for adaptation or modification as needed. Also included are chapter notes, an index, and 25 selected references. (ly)
