Proceedings of a Pre-Convention Workshop on College Personnel Services for the Adult; Student Assistance, Involvement, Development.
Thompson, Clarence H., Ed.
A workshop held prior to the convention of the American College Personnel Association in Detroit, Michigan, in April, 1968, operated under the theme "College Personnel Services for the Adult: Student Assistance, Involvement, Development." Papers given in the six sessions covered testing, financial aid, adult characteristics, motives, needs, and developmental tasks, aspects of counseling, and prospective educational uses of leisure in the twenty-first century. Admission and selection tests of varying lengths were described and the uses of testing for student placement, vocational and educational planning, remedial purposes, and assessment of creativity or innovation were discussed. Federal financial aid programs as they relate to adults were reviewed and their weaknesses pointed out; possible sources of funds for programs specifically developed for adults were suggested. The counselor's role was examined in terms of effective interaction with clients and of the need for adult-centered cocurricular activities. Included are appendixes, 51 references, and participant evaluations of the workshop. (ly)
