Sequential Programs in English for a Restructured Curriculum (Grades 7-12). Greater Cleveland Curriculum Plan.
Educational Research Council of America, Cleveland, OH.
These sequential programs in English for grades 7-12 cover the areas of language, literature, and composition (including speech, reading, and related communication skills) and define the goals of teaching and learning English. Under each of the three main areas, material is offered on point of view, general concepts to be emphasized, and specific concepts with learning experiences to develop them. Grade-level grids indicate what should be taught each year. Subject matter covered includes narration, description, exposition, argumentation, English language history, dialectology, lexicography, semantics, phonology, grammar, usage, short story, novel, drama, poetry, myth, and nonfiction. Several teacher aids are included: ideas to test in teaching; teaching methods with suggested references; variations in teaching for individual instruction and interdisciplinary study; recommendations on teaching conditions, facilities, and resources; a discussion of time allotment; and methods of implementing an English program.
