THIS BOOK PROVIDES TEACHERS WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR STIMULATING YOUNG WRITERS TO CREATE IMAGINATIVE COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING VERSATILE VOCABULARY WORDS AND GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS. (3) "VIOLENT FIORDS AND HIDDEN VALLEYS" CONTAINS DESCRIPTIONS OF CREATIVE WRITING LESSONS "DIRECTED TOWARD THE CREATION OF CHILDISH FANTASIES, FOLK TALES, AND POWERFUL DESCRIPTIONS OF VIOLENT FIORDS AND PEACEFUL VALLEYS." (4) "TOPAZ THOUGHTS" PRESENTS A SERIES OF POETIC WRITING EXPERIENCES CENTERED UPON SYLLABISM AS AN APPROACH TO POETIC CREATION. (5) "THE SPUTTERING FLAME OF CREATIVITY-EVALUATION" PROVIDES THE TEACHER WITH ASSISTANCE IN HELPING PUPILS CONFIDENTLY CREATE ORIGINAL COMPOSITIONS. MOST OF THE APPROACHES SUGGESTED IN THE BOOK WERE DEVELOPED THROUGH CLASSROOM PRACTICES, AND MANY OF THE SAMPLE COMPOSITIONS WERE OBTAINED FROM PUPILS IN GRADES 4-8. THE "CARLSON ANALYTICAL SCALE FOR MEASURING THE ORIGINALITY OF CHILDREN'S STORIES" IS APPENDED.
