THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ROLE OF READING IN A STANDARD TWO-SEMESTER FRESHMAN ENGLISH COURSE IS EMPHASIZED IN A DISCUSSION OF THE BASIC CONCEPTS, PURPOSES, ORGANIZATION, RESEARCH, AND METHODOLOGY OF THE COLLEGE FRESHMAN ENGLISH PROGRAM.
