THIS BOOK CONTAINS A SURVEY OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONFERENCE ON PHYSICS IN GENERAL EDUCATION, HELD IN RIO DE JANEIRO IN JULY 1963. THIS WAS THE SECOND CONFERENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL UNION OF PURE AND APPLIED PHYSICS. CONFERENCE ADDRESSES, CONSTITUTING THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE TEXT, CONSIDER THE TEACHING OF SECONDARY SCHOOL GENERAL EDUCATION PHYSICS. PARTICIPANTS EXPRESS THE BELIEF THAT PHYSICS SHOULD BE TAUGHT TO ALL STUDENTS FOR ITS CULTURAL VALUE RATHER THAN FOR ITS TECHNOLOGICAL USEFULNESS.
