A PROGRAM OF CURRICULUM REVISION, INITIATED IN 1962, HAS RESULTED IN A CURRICULUM GUIDE WHICH DELINEATES THE AIMS, TECHNIQUES, CONTENT, AND SCOPE OF SPANISH INSTRUCTION AT EACH LEVEL OF A FIVE-LEVEL SEQUENCE IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF NEW YORK CITY. A MODIFIED AUDIOLINGUAL APPROACH IS STRESSED AND SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES ARE SUGGESTED FOR THE TEACHING OF LISTENING, SPEAKING, READING, AND WRITING SKILLS, AND FOR THE PRESENTATION OF CULTURE TOPICS. CHECKLISTS OF MINIMAL VOCABULARY ITEMS AND GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURES ARE GIVEN FOR EACH LEVEL. OTHER SUBJECTS DETAILED ARE THE TAPE RECORDER, THE LANGUAGE LABORATORY, TESTING, AUDIOVISUAL AIDS, THE ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM, PROGRAMED INSTRUCTION, TEAM TEACHING, AND THE EVALUATION OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROGRAMS.
