The reliability of derived measures from 4 cognitive paradigms was studied using 19 Navy enlisted men (aged between 18 and 24 years). The paradigms were: graphemic and phonemic analysis; semantic memory retrieval; lexical decision making; and letter classification. Results indicate that derived scores may have low reliability. (SLD)

Peer reviewedMantzicopoulos, Panayota Y.; Morrison, Delmont – Remedial and Special Education (RASE), 1994
This study examined the early profiles of 270 kindergarten students screened for learning difficulties in kindergarten with SEARCH (an early identification measure) of which 32 had inadequate reading skills at the end of second grade. Peer reviewedShahani, Comila; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
The incremental contribution of an interview to the student admission process was studied for 331 applicants accepted as undergraduates at a private university. Interviews provide information about applicants and correlate to grade point average (GPA). Interviewer judgments do not contribute incremental variance to prediction of admissions…

Peer reviewedNelson, Jack K.; And Others – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1991
Researchers studied the reliability of the modified push-up test in measuring upper body strength and endurance in elementary through college students. Peer reviewedPillemer, David B. – Educational Researcher, 1991
Adherence to the arbitrary 0.05 level of significance as a benchmark for decisions about publishing research largely accounts for the popularity of one-tailed hypothesis tests. Effect size estimates, accompanied by confidence intervals or exact two-tailed probabilities, are generally more compatible with the growing meta-analytic view of social…

Peer reviewedJuvonen, Jaana; Murdock, Tamera B. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1993
Students' understanding of attributional self-presentation strategies that facilitate adults' and peers' social approval in achievement situations was examined in 2 experiments involving the same 48 eighth graders. Peer reviewedBlacher, Jan; Hanneman, Robert – Research in Developmental Disabilities, 1993
Behavioral intentions of 100 families regarding out-of-home placement for their child or early adolescent with severe handicaps were tracked 4 times over 6 years with the Placement Tendency Index, to assess the dynamics of family behavioral change. Peer reviewedMartinez, Michael E. – Applied Measurement in Education, 1993
Figural response (FR) items in architecture were compared with multiple-choice (MC) counterparts for their ability to predict architectural problem-solving proficiency of 33 practicing architects, 34 architecture interns, and 53 architecture students. Although both FR and MC predicted verbal design problem solving, only FR scores predicted…
