Komives, Eugenie; And Others – Journal of Medical Education, 1984
An attempt to assess the validity of the personal interview in the selection of residents for the program in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, is reported. The data suggest that the residency interview may be of greater value to applicants than to selection committees. (Author/MLW)

Ireland-Galman, Michelle M.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
For 404 community college students differentiated by sex, ethnicity, and types of educational majors, an estimate of the concurrent validity of each of two predictor measures (locus of control and sex-role orientation) was obtained relative to a criterion measure portraying the fear of success construct. (Author/PN)

Sobol, Marion G. – Research in Higher Education, 1984
Multiple regression analysis was used to establish a scale, measuring college student involvement in campus activities, work experience, technical background, references, and goals. This scale was tested to see whether it improved the prediction of success in graduate school. (Author/MLW)

Brooks, Terrence A. – College and Research Libraries, 1984
Four methods were used to forecast monthly circulation totals in 15 midwestern academic libraries: dummy time-series regression, lagged time-series regression, simple average (straight-line forecasting), monthly average (naive forecasting). In tests of forecasting accuracy, dummy regression method and monthly mean method exhibited smallest average…

Schwartz, Robert H.; Strawn, Charles E. – Journal of Dental Education, 1984
Studies of the predictive validity of the Dental Admission Test have been reported, but none suggest how an admissions committee should assess the scores of applicants who take the test twice. Improvement on the test scores might compromise their utility for purposes of student selection. (Author/MLW)

Omari, I. M. – Prospects: Quarterly Review of Education, 1976
Discusses how human differences alter results of intelligence tests from industrialized nations to nonindustrialized nations. Intelligence testing research in Africa is reviewed. (Author/DB)

Morrison, Thomas L.; And Others – Journal of Consulting And Clinical Psychology, 1973
Three measures of self-esteem were used to test the hypothesis that college students with low self-esteem would predict getting lower grades on an examination than high-self esteem subjects. The hypothesis was confirmed for the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory but not for the Ziller Social Self-Esteem scale or for the subscale of the Coopersmith…

Neidermeyer, Fred C.; Sullivan, Howard J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1972
Results of the study indicate that the 3-choice, selected-response tests often utilized in programs of this type do not provide an accurate indication of end-of-year achievement for many children, and their continued use is not recommended. (Authors)

Bryan, Clifford E.; Erickson, Edsel L. – Educ Urban Soc, 1970
Tests predictions of dropout potential based on education plans, aspirations, and both--on the basis of data collected during the 1960-61 school year from approximately 1500 eighth graders in the four junior high schools of a midwestern city. (JM)

Wilson, Lonny R.; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1983
Explores the limitations associated with the expectancy formula approach, using a logical and mathematical analysis. Expectancy tables are predicted on the questionable assumption that achievement follows a straight line growth pattern. The approach is biased in the direction of applying a more stringent underachievement criterion for older,…

Shrauger, J. Sidney; Osberg, Timothy M. – Psychological Bulletin, 1981
Compares the validity of individuals' self-assessments with other assessment procedures commonly used in psychological evaluation. It is argued that greater attention should be given to self-assessments and the improvement of their validity. Steps are outlined for deciding when self-assessment should be used, and suggestions are offered for…

O'Connor, Carol Alf; McAnulty, Brenda Hart – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1981
Investigated whether the emphasis on ACT scores for admission to engineering school is justified. Using stepwise regression procedures, multiple regression equations were derived using data from 328 students. Results indicated that ACT scores plus college transfer credits and advanced placement credits do aid in predicting academic performance.…
