Peer reviewedSmith, F. J.; Devine, K. – Information Processing and Management, 1985
Zipfian laws for frequency distributions of word pairs and longer phrases are derived from text sample analysis. From crossing of Zipfian curves, it is deduced that number of multi-word phrases that occur frequently in text is surprisingly small, of same order of magnitude as number of individual word-types. Descriptors: Algorithms, Graphs, Indexing, Information Retrieval
Peer reviewedBrownell, Winifred W.; Katula, Richard A. – Communication Quarterly, 1984
Describes the use of the Communication Anxiety Graph (CAG) to help students trace the pattern of their anxiety when making a speech. Also reports the results of a study using the CAG. Provides advice for student speakers based on when their anxiety peak may occur. (PD)

Sweetland, Robert D. – Classroom Computer Learning, 1984
Discusses a computer program requiring students to find an object on a grid by using location coordinates. The program, which provides a wide range of problem-solving activities, is a highly motivating approach to hands-on metric measurement, rounding off numbers, and plotting points on Cartesian coordinate systems. Includes complete program…
