A study of factors affecting specialty choice before residency shows clerkship and role models to be most beneficial. Student experiences in the first three years of medical school were most detrimental, although most students select specialties in the third and fourth years. Implications for medical school policy are discussed. (MSE)

Nunn, Gerald D.; Parish, Thomas S. – Psychology: A Quarterly Journal of Human Behavior, 1982
Examined the effects of family form and process on 314 college students. Findings indicated that parental childrearing roles were perceived more positively by those from intact, and death (of father) nonremarried families than those from divorced, remarried families. Perceived family happiness did not impact significantly. (Author/JAC)

Martin, Don; And Others – Journal for Specialists in Group Work, 1982
Describes a premarital group counseling program involving 35 committed couples. Results indicate that few role models were available for couples and that communication difficulties were apparent among many of the participants. Suggests counselors consider group premarital counseling as a valuable process for their clients. (Author)

Thirty-five second-graders and their parents responded to measures of sex-role adoption, concepts, and preference. Classroom teachers rated children's sex-role adoption. Both adults and children had clear sex differences on means of measures of sex-role preference and adoption. (Author/SJL)
