Loeser, J. G.; And Others – American Journal of Physics, 1981
Describes a model for inelastic scattering obtained by suitably generalizing scattering from a square well. The generalization introduces matrices into the quantum-mechanical scattering equations, which may be solved exactly to give an explicit expression for the scattering matrix. Discusses the results it predicts for a simple example. (Author/SK)

Coles, Gary J. – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1979
This paper discusses how full model dummy variables can be used with partial correlation or multiple regression procedures to compute matrices of pooled within-group correlations. (Author/CTM)

Kaiser, Henry F.; Cerny, Barbara A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A method for obtaining teacher ratings from incomplete student ranking data is presented. The procedure involves finding the scores for the teachers on the first principal component of a student intercorrelation matrix, where the missing data are supplied by least squares. (Author)

Steiger, James H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The program presented computes a chi-square statistic for testing pattern hypotheses on correlation matrices. The statistic is based on a multivariate generalization of the Fisher r-to-z transformation. This statistic has small sample performance which is superior to an analogous likelihood ratio statistic obtained via the analysis of covariance…

Kiers, Henk A. L. – Psychometrika, 1997
A general approach for fitting a model to a data matrix by weighted least squares (WLS) is studied. The approach consists of iteratively performing steps of existing algorithms for ordinary least squares fitting of the same model and is based on maximizing a function that majorizes WLS loss function. Smith, Kenneth J.; Rubenson, George C.; Bebee, Richard F. – Journal of Education for Business, 2002
A business school reorganized using self-directed teams based on a matrix of services and functions: faculty scholarship/service development, curriculum content/evaluation, instructional development/resources, and student activities. The mission statement focused on creation of a market-sensitive, flexible learning environment. (SK)

Boik, Robert J. – Psychometrika, 1988
Both doubly multivariate and multivariate mixed models of analyzing repeated measures on multivariate responses are reviewed. Given multivariate normality, a condition called multivariate sphericity of the covariance matrix is both necessary and sufficient for the validity of the multivariate mixed model analysis. (SLD)

West, Peter – International Journal of Institutional Management in Higher Education, 1988
The second edition of the rolling five-year plan of the University of Strathclyde is based on the use of a university policy directional matrix. The advantages of this method and some of the work to be carried out to refine the indicators before they are used again are summarized. (Author/MLW)

Snijders, Tom A. B. – Psychometrika, 1991
A complete enumeration method and a Monte Carlo method are presented to calculate the probability distribution of arbitrary statistics of adjacency matrices when these matrices have the uniform distribution conditional on given row and column sums, and possibly on a given set of structural zeros. (SLD)

Levin, Joseph – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
A reanalysis of the intercorrelation matrix from a principal components analysis of the Life Styles Inventory was conducted using a Canadian sample. Using nonmetric multidimensional scaling, analyses show an almost perfect circumplex pattern. Results illustrate the inadequacy of factor analytic procedures for the analysis and representation of a…

Sijtsma, Klaas; Meijer, Rob R. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1992
A method is proposed for investigating the intersection of item response functions in the nonparametric item-response-theory model of R. J. Mokken (1971). Results from a Monte Carlo study support the proposed use of the transposed data matrix H(sup T) as an extension to Mokken's approach. (SLD)

ten Berge, Jos M. F.; Kiers, Henk A. L. – Psychometrika, 1993
R. A. Bailey and J. C. Gower explored approximating a symmetric matrix "B" by another, "C," in the least squares sense when the squared discrepancies for diagonal elements receive specific nonunit weights. A solution is proposed where "C" is constrained to be positive semidefinite and of a fixed rank. (SLD)

Katz, Linda; Robinson, Chris – Child Welfare, 1991
This matrix, which shows interconnecting conditions, results, and treatment modalities, can be used by child welfare workers to help them decide when the delivery of services to parents will or will not bring about reunification, and when to take other steps to permanent placement. (Author/GH)

Keselman, H. J.; And Others – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1993
This article shows how a multivariate approximate degrees of freedom procedure based on the Welch-James procedure as simplified by S. Johansen (1980) can be applied to the analysis of repeated measures designs without assuming covariance homogeneity. A Monte Carlo study illustrates the approach. (SLD)

Gioia, Gerard A. – Assessment, 1998
The intercorrection matrices of the standardization sample (n=1,460) of the Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning (D. Sheslow and W. Adams, 1990), a measure of memory function in children, were submitted to hierarchical exploratory principal factor analysis. Results suggest that subtests be interpreted as unique entities first, and then as…
