The present study compared diagnostic classification of the standard and an abbreviated form of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale using brain-damaged and psychiatric patients as subjects. Subjects (N=60) read elation, depression and neutral self-referent mood statements and then answered a number of questionnaires with cognitive and affective content. Subjects in the elated mood group performed better on cognitive tasks than the depressed mood subjects plus they reported less depression than the latter. (SE)
