Females (N=8) were tested in an experiment measuring maximal work capacity and energy expended under varying conditions in an eight hour day of strenuous work. Energy expended exceeded that required for most physically demanding occupations. (Author)

A 1970 national sample of white ever-married females is used to explore the process of the intergenerational transmission of marital instability. The research examines the possibility that mate-selection outcomes operate as intervening variables between parent and child generation marital instability. Partial support is found for this. Photographs were taken of a male and a female in two eye positions: looking straight into the camera and looking downward. Job interviewers (N=44) in an employment agency were randomly assigned to one of the four photographs. Findings indicate eye contact is a determinant of the decision to hire. (Author)

Psychodynamically (n=19) and behaviorally (n=21) trained clinicians observed a taped interview. Half were told the interviewee was a job applicant, and half were told the interviewee was a patient. Scores on the Psychological Screening Inventory (PSI) were collected during freshman orientation and were used to predict need for counseling and type of presenting problem.
