It is argued that a reflectance channel that requires priority information is shown to be less plausible for the human visual system than J. L. Dannemiller (1989) argued. Prison inmates (n=72) were screened for scotopic sensitivity syndrome (SSS), a visual perceptual dysfunction; 11% had low levels of SSS, 18.1% moderate, and 79.8% high, compared with 12-14% of the general population.
