This study probed the connection between athletic success or failure and voluntary contributions made directly to the athletic department and concluded that, of all the factors considered in a multivariate model of voluntary giving, success in football is easily the best predictor of athletic contributions. The Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation researched the market for a racquetball facility in 1979. In 1980, the decision was made not to build public courts, based on research results indicating that the courts would not be self-sustaining. Results are discussed and displayed in tabular form.
