A survey of 142 of the 272 U.S. colleges and universities that offer engineering programs for the 1977-78 school year is presented. Data are collected and tabulated on semester hours and percentage of schools requiring various courses for freshmen in engineering. A few major findings from the data are included. (SMB)

The target of present-day curriculum revivalists is the curriculum that came into being in the late 1960s. The purpose of the reform is to restore a sense of a shared or common culture among undergraduates and thus among the leaders of American society. (MLW)

Discusses the methodology employed to evaluate systematically the entire core program of study at Oregon State University's School of Business. Examines the review methodology which took into consideration topic coverage, unnecessary duplication, and resource constraints; how results of the review were used; and benefits of the review. (CT)

Presents a rationale for a reassessment of general education. Provides and illustrates a General Education Program Schematic which includes eight concerns: student learning objectives, interdisciplinary approaches, team teaching, community involvement, career awareness, basic business education, computer literacy, and independent study. A ten-question survey instrument was used to measure teacher acceptance of vocational agriculture core curriculum materials in Nebraska. On a scale of one (poor) to ten (excellent), all 103 teachers who responded rated the core curriculum concept as 5 or higher, with 68 teachers scoring the core concept as 8 or higher. (LRA)

Describes the efforts of Californians for Better Schools through the Arts to make the arts basic to education, including their unsuccessful attempt to qualify the California Arts Initiative for the 1980 state ballot. The initiative would have made arts education mandatory in California's elementary and secondary schools. (SJL)

Describes the method by which the results of a survey of those community colleges in Illinois with electronics programs were used to determine a common core of subjects in electronics that would be acceptable statewide at the four-year college level. (AYC)
