A survey of one university's internal medicine residency graduates from 1969-79 showed 30 percent had no change in plans regarding general versus subspecialty practice since medical school, and 41 percent made final decisions during residency. Investigated whether marriage-related attitudes which are antagonistic to successful marital adjustment, or maladaptive styles of marital interaction, contribute to the higher divorce rate of children from disrupted marriages. Tested the influence of a supportive family on 142 women employed in or studying for nontraditional careers. Results showed the importance of emotional support by parents, siblings, peers and teachers. A middle-class adolescent peer group was examined, using ethnographic techniques, to describe the group's relationship to adults and to uncover the adult reference group after which the group modeled itself. Participation in supplemental tutoring led to a significant improvement in classroom behavior although significant changes in achievement and self-concept were not found. A study of women and men in higher education administration revealed more liberal attitudes towards sex characteristics and sex-role images. Sex was not a significant factor in evaluations of women and men as administrators. Individuals with liberal attitudes were more likely to evaluate men and women equally.
