Wunderlich, Kenneth W.; Borich, Gary D. – 1974
Considerable thought, research, and concern has been expanded in an effort to determine whether the assumption of a quadratic relation between a single predictor and a criterion violated the assumptions which Johnson and Neyman (1936) state for calculating regions of significance about interacting regressions. In particular, there has been special…

Hummel, Thomas J.; Feltovich, Paul J. – 1974
In some correlational studies it is not reasonable to assume that bivariate observations are uncorrelated. An example would be a configural analysis in which two individuals are correlated across several variables (e.g., Q-technique). The present study was a Monte Carlo investigation of the robustness of techniques used in judging the magnitude of…

Gullickson, Arlen R.; And Others – 1971
This study is an analysis of the robustness of the Box-Tiao integrated moving averages model for analysis of time series quasi experiments. One of the assumptions underlying the Box-Tiao model is that all N values of alpha subscript t come from the same population which has a variance sigma squared. The robustness was studied only in terms of…

McHoes, L. N.; Block, Karen K. – 1971
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of hypothesis testing instructions compared to brief instructions on the speed of shift problem solution of grade school age subjects, in order to provide information on the development of hypothesis testing behavior in children and the sampling characteristics of hypothesis testing in these…

Lindquist, Mary Louise – 1969
Research concerned with the compensatory education of disadvantaged children points to language deprivation as a primary causative factor in the "cumulative deficit" in education and school failure of these children. From a psycholinguistic framework, a method was devised to teach some of the essential linguistic skills in a short intensive…

Hakstian, A. Ralph – 1971
A new general approach to the problem of oblique factor transformation is identified and presented as an alternative to the common "blind" transformation techniques currently available. In addition, techniques for implementing such an approach are developed. The first section of the paper contains a brief review of the procrustes problem. The next…

Lord, Frederic M. – 1971
A simple, rigorous, small-sample statistical technique is described for testing the hypothesis that two sets of measurements differ only because of errors of measurement and because of differing origins and units of measurement. (Author)

Barro, Arlene R. – 1972
Two different approaches to identifying creative potential in writers were compared: (1) A cognitive-factor approach and (2) a personality approach. The objective is to determine whether the cognitive or personality tests are better able to distinguish between more creative and less creative writers. A review of the literature was conducted.…

Long, Huey B. – 1972
A study was conducted to determine why the theoretical relationship between dogmatism and conformity had not been verified in correlation studies. The study was designed to study the effect of differing statistical treatments on the coefficient of correlation. Data generated in an experimental framework included conformity scores and dogmatism…

Timm, Neil H. – 1977
Several procedures proposed in the literature for the analysis of growth curves are reviewed. Particular attention is given to the current issues in this area to guide practitioners in the selection of the most appropriate methodology. (Author)

Huynh, Huynh; Feldt, Leonard S. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1976
When the variance assumptions of a repeated measures ANOVA are not met, the F distribution of the mean square ratio should be adjusted by the sample estimate of the Box correction factor. An alternative is proposed which is shown by Monte Carlo methods to be less biased for a moderately large factor. (RC)

Cory, Clinton Oliver – Saskatchewan Journal of Educational Research and Development, 1975
The primary purpose of the study was to investigate and compare the critical thinking development in grade eight students in Saskatoon resulting from the traditional approach and the cognitive curriculum approach to the teaching of social studies. (Author)

Malgady, Robert G.; Huck, Schuyler W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The t ratio used in testing the difference between two independent regression coefficients is generalized to the multivariate case of testing the difference between two vectors of regression coefficients. This is particularly useful in determining which of two variables best predicts a number of criterion variables. (Author/JKS)

Hsu, Louis M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The problem of determining the significance level which should be used in statistical tests of item validity in order to minimize type I errors is discussed. (Author/JKS)
