Ysseldyke, James E.; And Others – Journal of Special Education, 1987
The impact of four early childhood education screening programs intended to identify handicapped children was evaluated using ecological case study methods. Results suggested that few screening and referral practices influenced screening outcomes in a consistent manner. (Author/DB)

Silber, Tomas J. – Adolescence, 1987
Discusses the moral issues relating to surveillance of adolescent marijuana use and postulates a justification for clinical screening. Asserts that surveillance under a private physician offers a better chance for success than public health screening for marijuana use. (Author/ABB)

Campbell, Janell; Campbell, Richard – Health Education (Washington D.C.), 1987
Mandatory drug testing of workers will create problems due to the low predictive ability of urinalysis. The predictive value of drug testing in populations of low drug incidence is illustrated using Bayes' Theorem. (MT)

Monaghan, Peter – Chronicle of Higher Education, 1986
The National Collegiate Athletic Association's plan for randomly testing athletes at championships for performance-enhancing and illegal drugs will cost about $950,000, more than anticipated, and will be accompanied by a drug education program and loans to laboratories to speed the testing. (MSE)

Davignon, Donald D.; Leshowitz, Barry H. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1986
Measured how well elderly persons hear in everyday auditory communication situations. Results of the new Speech-In Noise (SIN) test were better predictors of hearing communication performance than any of the traditional audiometric measures. Because the SIN test is so brief, it is ideal for mass screening of hearing among the elderly. (Author/ABB)

Prandoni, Jogues R.; And Others – Journal of Offender Counseling, Services & Rehabilitation, 1985
Describes rationale for developing a program for pre-parole mental health screenings that involves the use of an interagency, multidisciplinary team and employs referral criteria based on mental health considerations. Kaplan, Howard B. – Psychology in the Schools, 1985
Assessed concurrent validity of Vane Kindergarten Test (VKT) in 40 kindergartners, using Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence scores as the criterion measure. Found the VKT a valid screening measure for kindergarten children, although it tended to overestimate ability and was not independent of a child's ability for self-control.…

Cadman, David; And Others – American Journal of Public Health, 1984
The Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) was administered to 2569 children prior to starting kindergarten. At the end of the school year, teachers rated each child. Results suggest that because of its low sensitivity and modest predictive value, the DDST is relatively inefficient for a school entry screening program in a general population.…

Morrison, Hugh E. – Diagnostique, 1984
The paper presents a step-by-step procedure for finding the probability of occurrence of the difference between test scores and the probability of occurrence of errors of measurement. This procedure is useful in interpreting test results to parents and making placement decisions. Difference scores are often used in placing students in learning…

The Denver Developmental Screening Tests (DDST) was administered to 25 Southeast Asian children (one to five years old) and scores of 150 other DDSTs performed on Southeast Asian children were reviewed.
