Many low-income schools are currently receiving money to purchase microcomputers and computer-oriented materials. They include Weaver High School (Hartford, CN) and schools in Edgefield County (SC). The uses of the computers in these schools, impact on curriculum and instructional practices, and future endeavors are discussed. (JN)

Alumni relations is defined as working to motivate alumni to be understanding and supportive of their university. The alumni association should be a community catalyst for moving people. A largely overlooked role for alumni is their involvement in the decision-making processes of a university. (MLW)

The University of Illinois used teleconferencing to ignite volunteers and leaders for a five-year capital campaign. The program was live with two-way audio communications from meeting sites back to the main studio. Suggestions for planning and organizing a teleconference are presented. (MLW)

Summarizes the major findings of a study on the nature and scope of support for foreign languages by private and corporate foundations. The study identified 83 supporting foundations and 178 recipient organizations as well as 340 grants made in support of foreign language education during the 1973-84 period. (SED)

A survey of house staff stipends, benefits, and funding for members of the Council of Teaching Hospitals is reported. The survey presents data on trends in stipend levels, total hospital expenditures for stipends and benefits, and the sources used to fund these expenditures. (MLW)

It is argued that equal education and excellence are not mutually incompatible, but that by embracing new and more valid conceptions of excellence, both can be achieved. Two approaches to assessing institutional quality are compared: reputational, based on consensus of opinion, and resource, based on quantitative measures. (MSE)
