Peer reviewedRamey, Craig T.; And Others – Child Development, 1973
Infants in a day care center were studied until age 36 months and tested periodically with the Bayley Scales, the Stanford-Binet, and the ITPA. Predictions of I.Q. were fulfilled much better than in previous studies and a constant environment was suggested as a contributing factor. (ST)

Rutter, Michael – J Child Psychol Psychiat, 1970
A consideration of the factors which influence development and development predictions leads to the view that, with better instruments, improved but still very modest predictions might become possible during later infancy. Paper read to the Standing Conference of Societies Registered for Adoption: Medical Group: Day Conference on Genetic and…

Peer reviewedFischer, Frederick E. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1970
The personalbiserial index is a correlation which measures the relationship between the difficulty of the items in a test for the person, as evidenced by this passes and failures, and the difficulty of the items as evidenced by group-determined item difficulties. Reliability and predictive validity are studiesstudied. (Author/RF)

Peer reviewedLutz, J. Gary – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
A method is presented for the construction of an artificial data set which will illustrate the behavior of the traditional, the negative, and the reciprocal suppressor variable in multiple regression analysis. It extends the method of Dayton (1972) and includes the previously reciprocal suppression defined by Conger (1974). (Author)
Descriptors: Multiple Regression Analysis, Predictive Measurement, Research Methodology, Suppressor Variables
Peer reviewedHarris, Chester W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
Brennan's B statistic is a generalized upper-lower discrimination index which was first published in 1972: Peirce earlier introduced a statistic on the relation between a predictor and an outcome which has the same structure as Brennan's B. (Author/CP)
Descriptors: Discriminant Analysis, Item Analysis, Mathematical Formulas, Predictive Measurement
Pilot, Michael J. – Occupational Outlook Quarterly, 1980
Examines the kind of analysis performed for material on the job prospects in the Occupational Outlook Handbook and evaluates the accuracy of previous projections. Discusses why projections of job outlook are made, methods used in their development, and their accuracy. (JOW)
Descriptors: Employment Projections, Employment Statistics, Predictive Measurement, Reliability
Peer reviewedLaBuda, Michele C.; DeFries, J. C. – Annals of Dyslexia, 1988
Data analysis of 134 twin pairs from the Colorado Reading Project found that approximately 40 percent of the deficit observed in disabled readers is because of genetic factors, 35 percent because of environmental influences shared by twin pairs, and 25 percent because of environmental factors unique to the individual and/or error variance.…

Peer reviewedHumphreys, Glyn W.; Muller, Hermann J. – Cognitive Psychology, 1993
A connectionist model, SEarch via Recursive Rejection (SERR), is presented that performs across a window defining the model's functional field. Implications are discussed, and results of 5 experiments involving 19 male and 19 female adults and adolescents that test novel predictions derived from the model are presented. (SLD)
