From 1978 to 1980 a committee worked to determine the status of philanthropy and voluntary organizations in America and to recommend efforts to strengthen the nonprofit sector. Corporate matching gift programs allow colleges to secure contributions from highly specialized corporations and corporations with geographically limited giving policies. However, colleges must stimulate their alumni to make the initial contributions and then take the extra step to secure the match. (MLW)

This study determined that adolescent participation in voluntary associations was related to the form and extent of political activity in adulthood. Adolescent participation had positive effects on discussion of issues, campaign participation, and voting rates. (Author/APM)
