Twenty-seven rural physicians were visited by a medical librarian and taught to search medical literature via computer. A survey of 21 participants showed that the program reduced the sense of isolation and increased satisfaction. Online searching cost an average of $10 per month to answer 20 clinical questions. (SK)

Of 677 dentists offered continuing dental education, 78 percent selected either formal courses, mailed instructional materials and videotape, or materials only. Followup showed that selection of format paralleled perceived need for education. Course participants made greatest learning gains, followed by the materials/videotape group. (SK)
