Since first-year psychiatric residents were observed to lack many interviewing skills necessary for both physicians and psychiatrists, a method of teaching the skills in a group setting with live patients was constructed. Research results supported self-report changes in empathy, congruence, and level of regard. (Author/LBH)

A Sex of Subject x Sex of Counselor interaction in the desensitization of test anxiety among 44 college students suggested consideration of the sex variable. Results showed significant treatment effects by both male and female counselors and a significant interaction effect by the male counselor with female subjects. (Author)

Undergraduate students (N=130) rated Carl Rogers via visual, lexical, vocal, or vocal-lexical communication channels. Lexical cues were more important in creating favorable impressions among females. Subsequent exposure to combined visual-vocal-lexical cues resulted in warmer and less distant ratings, but not on a consistent basis. (Author)

Male and female counselors (N=88) viewed videotaped vignettes of two 35-year old women and two 20-year old women who portrayed problems about feared rape, existential anxiety, and choice of college major. Results indicated the two personal-social problems were rated as more serious than vocational problems on all dependent measures. (Author)

Frequency measures were based on the first 30 minutes of audiotaped interviews with clients, taken at the end of prepracticum, during practicum, and at least three months after training. This study determined the effects of using structured learning techniques to train lower socioeconomic emotionally disturbed children and adolescents (N=40) in verbal behaviors.
